When you first look at the timeline it is amazing how far technology has moved in a relatively short space of time. If you rewind back to 1988 it is amazing how many of the day to day luxuries we take for granted did not exist. The most poignant example is this website which wouldn’t have existed because the world wide web had not been created.

The world wide web is probably the most significant development the tech industry has ever experienced. As you progress through the timeline it is obvious that the internet is central to many of the latter developments. The creation of Google, Amazon. Napster and of course Facebook would not have been possible without it. For as long as I can remember I have had internet access in some form whether at school or at home but it is a relatively new technology, only discovered in 1990.

Arguably the world wide web has not only changed how we access information but also how we fundamentally communicate as human beings, especially since 2004 and the launch of Facebook.

As well as creating a new economy and many industries the world wide web has also helped innovation and growth in other areas. The most obvious example is the huge increase in the popularity of mobile devices. The world wide web created a population who demanded information at their fingertips and manufacturers responded in the form of laptops, tablets and smartphones.

So much has changed since 1988 but we can’t wait to see how much the tech industry will have change over the next 25 years.
