It’s been a thrilling season for horse racing fans as they looked forward to the rise of a new equine champion this year. While the 2015 Travers Stakes and the Santa Anita Derby delivered some notable moments that are worthy of celebration, none of this year’s stakes were as significant as the Triple Crown. Why, you ask? Because prior to the 2015 Triple Crown, we haven’t seen a single horse emerge as the winner for 37 years, and the outcome of the 2015 Triple Crown produced just that. American Pharoah – who, remarkably, has just been beaten by Keen Ice in the Travers Stakes – became the first Thoroughbred to be crowned the winner of this exalted race after Affirmed.

The Triple Crown is more than just an event where people go to gamble or spend leisure time with family; it is an experience that instills pride, stirs the imagination and inspires the nation.

Nostalgia was inevitable when American Pharoah crossed the finish line first at the 2015 Belmont Stakes. Older racing fans were sure to reminisce about the 1978 Stakes when Affirmed raced the third fastest in the Belmont Stakes history and completed it by a nose.

While we’re on the subject of history, have a look at this cool infographic from MyWinners.com that details how far we’ve come with the Triple Crown. If you’re a newbie who’ve just discovered your passion for horse racing, then this infographic will also explain everything else you need to know about the Triple Crown.
